The Unlikely Missionary

Many people say that they are Christians. But are you mirroring the Man we are named for? The Spirit of the Lord is on me, [Jesus], because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. Luke 4:18, 19  (CSB) If we are condeming the poor and homeless saying they don't deserve assistance, if we support the idustrial prison complex (the same prison that enslaved Paul) instead of healing and redemption, if you believe that slavery does not need to be called out, atoned for and captives set free, if you believe that people deserve to be thrown away and cast aside then you are not love and are not a reflection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Where is the love people of God? God gave us to two commandments ( Matthew 22:37-40 ) and neither one involves telling people what to do. American Christians are doing a bad job at loving because they are too busy being the morality police. News flash: That’s not our job! This may be an Unpopular opinion but we as Christians are in no way qualified to tell others (non-believers or believers) whether they are worthy of entrance into the kingdom of God.  I'm not saying that we can't determine right and wrong, good or bad. I'm saying that it is not our job to condemn people to hell, throw away people, or try to change the minds of people who don't believe as we do. No matter what today remember, you are loved! God took the time to form you in your mother's womb and breathe life in you and opened up your eyes today to see another day. As I have been looking at all of the events of this weekend I know that the heart of God is grieved. When Jesus was asked which was the most important commandment he said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. In God's economy Love is Action Many of us know the 1 Corinthians 13 which has been dubbed the "Love Chapter" of the Bible. It has always bothered me that people say they fall in love with people because to me this means that just as fast as it can happen it can end. And if that is true that means that God can fall in and out of love with us at any given moment. And if that is true how can God be love personified if love is so wishy washy? That doesn't fit with who God says He is. But, when people talk about love its like this mystical thing that just comes upon you. But to God and in His Word it is much more than that. There are too many Pharisees in today's American church. If you don't know what a Pharisees is let me explain... PHAR'ISEE, n. Heb. to separate. One of a sect among the Jews, whose religion consisted in a strict observance of rites and ceremonies and of the traditions of the elders,and whose pretended holiness led them to separate themselves as a sect, considering themselves as more righteous than other Jews. In today's world that would be a self-righteous person. See here  for a history of their exploits. Before there was the church as we know it there were Jews and there were Gentiles. In case you are wondering, unless you have Jewish heritage we all qualify as Gentiles. The Pharisees were what we would consider modern day religious folks that think they are above it all. In the midst of the fear, sadness, and uncertainty that blanketed New York this day 9 years ago so did love. I am an eternal New Yorker. Born and raised... I plan to raise my family here. This attack hurt my heart and paralyzed me. All eyes were on us, but not because of Fashion Week or because the President was in town or because the Pope was visiting, but because we were hurting. We New Yorkers have an slight arrogance about us. Our city suffered a great blow and it was a tough pill to shallow. We grieved. Together. People helped each other. Color and all those other prejudices didn't matter. This was our city. We were all hurting and we all needed each other. When cops and firefighters ran into those towers they didn't say hmmmm, I can't help you, you don't look right, they just went in to save people.
