The Unlikely Missionary

 No elected leader in the US or otherwise was handpicked by God. Especially not Donald Trump. Truth be told God never wanted us to have a King or President or Prime Minister or Emperor or any other Ruler to begin with. So the very idea that God is picking presidents for a nation (the US) that is not the children or Israel, a nation that didn't exist when the convenent God made with the children of Israel was enacted is a level of mental gymnastics that quite honestly is equal parts impressive and sad.  The fact of the matter is: The children of Israel looked around and saw that their other counterparts had Kings and so they asked God for one. He didn't want them to have one but He loved them and He obliged them. That doesn't mean that God is still picking kings. The last King God chose was Jesus. Jesus is the King of ALL Kings. This isn’t a traditional Resurrection Sunday but it isn’t unprecedented. On the first Resurrection Sunday there were similar emotions palpating the air. Sorrow, fear, heartache, pain. People in their houses afraid to come outside. There we no big hats and elaborate outfits. There were no lilies and choir rehearsed selections. While they weren’t fighting a deadly disease the disciples and the followers of Jesus had experienced trauma. They had just seen him killed two days ago. Crucified, hung on a Cross and breathed his last breath. All of their hopes, dreams died in that instant. It was replaced with disappointment, fear, hopelessness and loss. They were looking for a conqueror, a deliverer, a warrior to remove all their enemies, obstacles and hardships. They believed that Jesus was that and they put all their eggs in his basket. Imagine hearing that your house is being robbed. You would probably go straight there to see what's going on. Next, imagine walking into your home and there is the robbery, in progress. I’m sure you would be in shock. Now imagine that it’s a friend or relative that is robbing you. You’d probably be feeling betrayed. Finally, imagine that they look up, see you and continue to rob you in your face. Now here comes the anger. This ladies and gentlemen is where we encounter Jesus in Mathew 21:12-14 . I am utterly appalled at the things Christians are justifying these days. When you think about it we, as people of God should be on the side of giving those who need asylum help and safety, of showing compassion to those who need it. The fact that we aren't shows how far from God the American Church really is. The Fact is American Christians Are Being Tested and Failing Miserably. We condone people having their children ripped away from them while on Sunday praising the Savior who was an immigrant and needed asylum. In Matthew 2 we see Matthew's account of Jesus birth and that Herod, the king at the time was threatened by his birth and sought to kill him. Because of this the angel of the Lord told Mary and Joseph to flee to Egypt (v13). ...God’s angel showed up again in Joseph’s dream and commanded, “Get up. It is Good Friday! It's Good because today is the day that Jesus will be lead to die. I can see your face in my head as you read that line. Like how can that possibly be good? The easiest answer is, without His death there is no eternal life. To those who actually lived this day it was anything but Good. But we know the outcome, we know how the story ends. This day started out like any other day back then. The meat of the story doesn't really begin until sundown with Passover. Now I'm not going to do an indepth rundown of the story. And today there will be many services preaching the 7 last words and drilling home to us the agony that He went through for us. It is very sobering when you think about it. I find that we live in a world of Grays. However God is very black and white.  There is no gray.  We are all sinners ( Romans 3:23 ) and There is only one way to heaven ( John 14:6 , Acts 4:12 ). That's it. Plain and simple. In this world we put levels on wrongdoing. There is simple assault, assault, assault and battery. Then there are degrees; 1st degree, 2nd degree. But in God's economy all sins are equal and they are all punishable by death. No ifs, ands, or butts. And we are ALL born into sin. Just like we can get certain diseases from our parents, we inherit sin. It has been passed down from generation to generation. Every human being has sin, no one is immune. Therefore to God it doesn't matter if you have a little sin or a lot of sin (whatever that means) even a speck of sin is too much and can separate you from the fullness of a relationship with God. There are too many Pharisees in today's American church. If you don't know what a Pharisees is let me explain... PHAR'ISEE, n. Heb. to separate. One of a sect among the Jews, whose religion consisted in a strict observance of rites and ceremonies and of the traditions of the elders,and whose pretended holiness led them to separate themselves as a sect, considering themselves as more righteous than other Jews. In today's world that would be a self-righteous person. See here  for a history of their exploits. Before there was the church as we know it there were Jews and there were Gentiles. In case you are wondering, unless you have Jewish heritage we all qualify as Gentiles. The Pharisees were what we would consider modern day religious folks that think they are above it all. Crazy concept when I say I serve someone huh? Romans 6:18 (The Message) Offer yourselves to sin, for instance, and it's your last free act. But offer yourselves to the ways of God and the freedom never quits. All your lives you've let sin tell you what to do. We all say we can stop at anytime. If we could we wouldn't need rehab for drugs, sex, overeating, alcohol, gambling, shopping, smoking, etc. You name it they have rehab for it. We have patches and gums and shots and Pavlov tricks to help us try to break our addictions (sounds like being enslaved to me). But I don't do those things.... Its funny how many different versions of Jesus people have. He's black, he's white. How silly that is because he was Jewish. They say He was rich but His cradle was an animal's feeding trough. My Savior was a poor carpenter who depended on the kindness of others for food and shelter. He was a person that most people would ignore if they passed Him on the street. He wouldn't be given a second thought. All the things that we think savior's should be He was not. He wasn't regal or rich and powerful in society. But He was definitely whom we needed. He cared about the poor because he was. He was willing to touch the untouchable because He knew that at the end of His life we would treat Him like a leper. His heart broke over the death of a friend. He knew what it was to go hungry, to sleep outside, to have friends and family turn their back on Him. He knew what it meant to feel physical pain.
