Reject the Fake News Church Gospel

When the scripture said there is nothing new under the sun its true. When I look out at the current moment the American Evangelical Church sits in, 1 Timothy 6 speaks so deeply to this moment. Where truth is lacking, the focus is protecting offering collections, Pastors viewing themselves as gods and refusing godly instruction. In this moment we are trading God's purpose for Money and Likes. I have a fondness for the Message translation of the Bible since my time as a Youth Leader at my father's church because of how it interprets the Word. So that is the verison you will see here. 1 Timothy 6:2-10 goes as follows: 2-5  These are the things I want you to teach and preach. If you have leaders there who teach otherwise, who refuse the solid words of our Master Jesus and this godly instruction, tag them for what they are: ignorant windbags who infect the air with germs of envy, controversy, bad-mouthing, suspicious rumors. Eventually th...

God's Economy - Appearances Mean Nothing

There are a lot of King Sauls in the church today. They look good, they sound good and they even smell good. Cuz that’s what matters to us nowadays, right? Folks who are InstaReady, right? But their life, their walk with God is foul. And we make excuses for it because they look the "part". Folks out here running around without the fear of God forgetting how the story of King Saul turned out; defeated, chased and at a witch's door step . Have we learned nothing from when God called David? 1 Samuel 16 But the  Lord  said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The  Lord  does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance,  but the  Lord  looks at the heart.” When Samuel went to Jesse’s house looking for the next king he made the same mistake that we church folks make now. We are looking at what a person has and looks like and not the Jesus that exists inside of them. Tha...

Conspicuous Consumption

As I was writing the Myth Busters post it occurred to me how much the story of the Rich Man and Lazarus mirrored our current society. Even the man that currently sits in the White House. If you missed the Myth Busters post check it out below. Read: Myth Busters: You Can Go to Heaven and Come Back The parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus is found in Luke 16:18-31 In a nutshell the Rich Man lived a life of excess to the point of being obnoxious and Lazarus was a beggar who lived his days with dogs licking the sores on his body and hoping to get some scraps from the Rich Man's table. In today's society we see many - our current president and many congress members included - who live their days, as Eugene Patterson put it, in  conspicuous consumption. The dictionary defines it as expenditure on or consumption of luxuries on a lavish scale in an attempt to enhance one's prestige. Did you just get goosebumps like I did, because doesn't that describe them to a t...

Sowers of the Flesh

In the American Church today, unfortunately, many are sowers of the flesh in the name of Jesus. Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. We love to focus on the fact that God is a loving God, and that is ABSOLUTELY true. But love does not mean the absence of correction and punishment. I often am angered by people who put God in a bad light especially those who support the vile things that have been happening in this country as of late and justifying it with scripture. I don't need to be worried about those individuals because God's got this. However to those who inflict pain in the Name of God... I am very sorry because that is not the nature of God. God gives us a choice in everything we do. Our choices are our own and He stays out of it unless we invite Him in. However, when we use His Word ...

God Will NOT Be Mocked

If the reports of Trump at the National Prayer Breakfast are true, which knowing him I believe them to be, I issue a stiff warning to my brothers and sisters in Christ. Galatians 6:7-8 says, Don’t be misled: No one makes a fool of God. What a person plants, he will harvest. The person who plants selfishness, ignoring the needs of others—ignoring God!—harvests a crop of weeds. All he’ll have to show for his life is weeds! But the one who plants in response to God, letting God’s Spirit do the growth work in him, harvests a crop of real life, eternal life. To sit by and watch a man - who has shown no care or reverence for God, who clearly serves mammon (money) and has no concept of love your neighbor as yourself - on a national stage ask for prayer for the ratings of a TV show, God will deal most harshly with you. He is, each and everyday making a mockery of who God is.  If I didn't know who Christ is and Trump was my introduction I would run far away from Christ because I...
