Pursuing Righteous is a Constant State of Protest

There has been a large debate on what constitutes a peaceful protest. But what does protest even mean? Protest  - express an objection to what someone has said or done Protest simply means to express an objection to something. You can live in a constant state of protest. It can be expressed verbally and non-verbally. Passively or actively. It can be event specific or just there in daily action. And can be non-violent or violent. With the death of George Floyd many are protesting and there are debates about what protesting should look like, the right way to protest and what a peaceful protest looks like. However, there are a few misconceptions around the concept of a "peaceful" protest.   Protest is peaceful. Non-violent equals peaceful. Protest must be a big, physical demonstration in order to be heard Protests have an expiration date The definition of peaceful is to be free of disturbance. That's the antonym of protest. The point of protest is to disturb, to disrupt...

When Society Ignores Rape

I had an interesting exchange on Facebook awhile ago which moved me to create this post. However, I hesitated to put this out. However, since them we have had Dr. Nasser and Michigan State, another Catholic church sandal and a Supreme Court Justice nominee that has been accused of Sexual Assault. So I have finally found the courage to post something that needs to be said from the Word of God. - There is a lot of discussion of rape culture in America especially when rapists are given three month sentences for their awful crimes. There is so much BS out there about how women can keep themselves from being raped as if we can steel trap our legs shut. And it particularly grieves me when supposed people of God speak these things out of their own mouths. But what does the Bible say? The story of Tamar   in the Bible is a perfect example of what happens when society ignores rape ( 2 Samuel 13 ). It has a high cost. King David, we all know King David, had an obscene amount o...

#Justice - Cry Out to God

There has been so much that has come out, #MeToo, the Team USA Gymnastics Scandal, families being torn apart by ICE and now the 18th mass shooting in the US this year and it is only February! All these things make me angry and in many ways fearful, for myself and for my children who I am already terrified to let out of my sight. This passage that I highlight today is usually used as a way to cause division and justify condemnation but I use it today because I believe that man has always twisted this story from the true purpose it was supposed to be used for, to show that when you cry out to God for justice, He answers and His justice doesn't just avenge, it cleanses, restores and frees. The story is one most are familiar with, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. Often times it is preached to condemn gay people but the fact of the matter is that is not what this story is about. It has always bothered me the way this passage is used by some preachers because if all sin and the pay...

Cry Out for Justice

I know alot of people question why God allows things to happen. I've said this before and I'll probably say it again, many times. Its because He has given us free will. He gives us the ability to choose whether we want Him in our lives or not. That does not mean that God won't stop things from happening. He will, but we have to ask. Ask and it will be given to you; For everyone who asks receives; Matthew 7:7-8 If you don't ask you can't receive and in these times especially where families are being ripped apart, lives are being lost and rights are being stripped away we need not just speak out and against injustice but in that same voice ask that God mete out His justice for the injustices being rendered. In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears. Psalm 18:6 This should be an audible prayer. A prayer deep in the soul that forces you to speak aloud as ...

Open Letter - Christians Stand Up

As I have been looking at all of the events of this weekend I know that the heart of God is grieved. When Jesus was asked which was the most important commandment he said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ These two commands are pegs; everything in God’s Law and the Prophets hangs from them.” ( Matthew 22:39-40 MSG) and again “The first in importance is, ‘Listen, Israel: The Lord your God is one; so love the Lord God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence and energy.’ And here is the second: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment that ranks with these.” ( Mark 12:29-31 MSG) says, And I have been waiting, desperately to hear people of God come out in force to denounce the lack of love that has transpired in the last 10 or some odd days since Trump ...
